CNC Industry Day event at NAIT connects future candidates with Stream-Flo

Multidisciplinary delegation delights with donuts and details about our storied CNC department

If there’s one way to snag a student’s attention, free food is it. Throw in a good dose of friendliness and future opportunity for employment and you have yourself a winning NAIT CNC Industry Day HR recipe.

“The event was, I found, very successful,” said Stream-Flo Human Resources Recruiter/Coordinator Meredith Kocher, who along with Stream-Flo CNC Supervisor Babith Kumar and Stream-Flo Manufacturing Manager Brian Brisbane, formed the Stream-Flo triumvirate that descended on NAIT.

“We received lots of resumes and lots of good feedback from the students,” added Kocher. “It was great.”

The two-hour event, which featured roughly 17 companies and around 100 students from NAIT’s two machinist programs, served as a chance for both employer and potential employee to learn more about one another.

With seven-week practicums on the horizon for the students, the impetus to put on a good impression and secure one soon created the perfect environment for many solid conversations.

“They asked lots of specific questions to Babith and Brian,” said Kocher. “They showed a genuine interest in the company and what we had to offer.”

All of which was buttressed by some goodies.

“Of course the free swag helps, and the donuts that we were able to provide,” laughed Kocher.

Like moths to a flame. Hungry moths.

A ‘rewarding’ experience

For Kocher, this first chance to be the face of Stream-Flo at such an event started off with some nerves, but those quickly disappeared as she started chatting with the students.

“It’s honestly rewarding,” said Kocher about her first foray as the publicly pointy end of the Stream-Flo HR spear. “At the end of the day it’s a great company to work for, so to be able to talk on real experiences and real positive experiences with these students, it’s a great feeling. I’m not selling something that’s not there.”

Our strong history and partnership with NAIT was also something that shone through during the event.

“Even the dean had come over and appreciated us for what we’ve done with NAIT,” explained Kocher, adding that many students had already heard of Stream-Flo through their instructors and were directed to our table by them.

“Having a presence there has been important to both NAIT and Stream-Flo,” Kocher continued.

Stack of new resumes in hand, Kocher says as CNC or machinist opportunities arise, the HR group will now have a new class of candidates they can quickly reach out to.

Candidates who, importantly, now know who we are, and what we do, on a deeper and more personal level.
